🌟Westwood Winners!🌟 Our Key Stage 1 children took part in the Matball Championship this week entering 2 teams to compete. The Westwood A Team came third in the A league 🥉 The Westwood B Team came first in the B league 🥇 We are so proud of you all for representing our school. We also got both player of the match awards for Brodee and Skye because of their "resilience and sportsmanship" 🏆 Thank you to @premEducationUK for coaching the children to victory!

This week in Year 2, we published our fantastic non-chronological reports in Literacy, showing off all our hard work and growing confidence as writers. In Maths, we consolidated our understanding of 2D and 3D shapes, exploring their properties and using them to solve problems. In Art, we enjoyed creating our own 3D sculptures using pipe cleaners, bending and twisting them into imaginative designs. For Geography, we went on a local walk to identify human and physical features and think carefully about where they are positioned in our environment. In RWV, we learnt why the Torah is important to Jewish people, and in Science, we investigated absorbent materials through hands-on experiments. It has been a busy and brilliant week of learning!

A brilliant week Year 3 In Literacy published our non-chron reports, in Reading we have continued reading The Nothing To See Here Hotel and in Maths we have been converting m, cm and mm. In Science we looked at the best materials to build a den with that completely blocks light, in Art we used water colour to create paintings of flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keefe, in Computing we programmed movement in Scratch, in Woodlands we identified suitable materials to build a fire with and looked at fire safety, in Geography we learnt what makes volcanoes erupt, in RWV we looked at what makes the Qur’an special for Muslims and in PSHE we continued our work on human rights. We also enjoyed a visit from the Road Safety team organised by our JRSO team and learnt all about staying safe when we are near to and on the roads, as well as enjoying another fabulous ukulele session! Well done Year 4 for another fantastic week of learning! This week in Geography we have been exploring and locating different biomes around the world and learning about their climates! We also had our Junior Road Safety and Friendship workshops! In Literacy this week we have finished writing our spectacular non-chronological reports on the Ancient Egyptians, before publishing these and sharing with our friends. In Computing this week we worked in groups to plan our very own podcasts about our learning this half term! In Art we used clay to create our own version of Henry Moore's sculpture the 'Large Interior Form', thinking about the use of line work and texture! Have a lovely weekend Year 4! Year 5! Another fantastic week in Year 5! In Literacy, we have been writing our non-chronological reports on Ancient Greece, working hard to include all elements of our success criteria including formal vocabulary, varied sentence structure, parenthesis, relative clauses and adverbials. In Maths, we have been multiplying four-digit numbers by one-digit numbers using column multiplication. In Reading, we have continued with our text, Seven Ghosts, making links between the stories and discussing the purpose and impact of the illustrations on the reader. In Science, we planned our own investigations to identify which material is best at insulating heat. We are looking forward to conducting these experiments next week. In Woodlands, we identified the characteristics of the seasons and the impact on plants, wildlife and humans. In Gymnastics, we have focused on how to safely perform different types of rolls. We have also enjoyed a Road Safety workshop focusing on how to be a safe passenger and a Mental Health workshop focusing on wellbeing and resilience. This week in Year 6 has been full of energy, creativity and brilliant learning! In Literacy, we proudly published our persuasive letters to our parents (good luck to them!), while in Maths we strengthened our understanding of decimal numbers with confidence. In Gymnastics, we developed our jumps and explored how height affects our movement, and in History we were fascinated by the significance of the Staffordshire Hoard. In Art, we carefully built armatures using sticks and tape, focusing on correct proportion and sturdiness, and in Computing we became mini coders as we learned how to update variables using micro:bit inputs. We finished the week by travelling millions of years into the past in Science, discovering how fossils give us evidence of evolution.

Year 1 have had a fantastic week of learning and exploring 💫 In year one, the children set off on a walk around the local area, spotting physical features like trees and flowers, as well as human features such as houses, shops and roads. They loved seeing how the environment around them is made up of both natural and man‑made elements. In Science, the children dived into the animal group ‘fish’, discovering what makes them unique. They were fascinated by gills, fins and scales, and enjoyed comparing fish to other animal groups they’ve learned about. To finish the week, Year 1 became proud authors in Literacy as they published their fact files about the animals in The Journey Home. Their hard work really shone through, and they were so excited to share their finished pieces. Have a brilliant weekend 🙂 Miss Shuffle and Miss Dennant 💜

A great week Year 3! In Literacy have been researching volcanoes are getting ready to write our non-chron reports, in Reading we have been reading The Nothing To See Here Hotel and in Maths we have been looking at metres, centimetres and millimetres. In Science we planned an experiment to test how reflective something is, in Art we sketched different flowers to include different textures, in Computing we programmed movement in Scratch, in RWV we looked at the different names of Allah and their meanings, in Geography we learnt that volcanoes form at plate boundaries and in PSHE we looked at why rules are important. What a busy and brilliant week of learning in Year one! In Maths, the children explored one more and one less with growing confidence. In Literacy, they worked hard on their fact files all about the animals from The Journey Home. In Art, the children experimented with primary colours and investigated what happens when we mix them to create new shades. Lastly, we had a fantastic bedtime stories. A fantastic week in Year 5! In Literacy, we have continued to build our grammatical accuracy when using relative clauses, colons, semi colons and dashes. We have used Rainbow Grammar cards to support our learning. In Maths, we have been working hard to subtract fractions from mixed numbers. In Reading, we have continued with our book, Seven Ghosts. The children have made fantastic predictions. In Science, we investigated a variety of materials and grouped them into electrical conductors and insulators. In Woodlands, we completed a risk assessment before heading into the Woods to explore and classify the plants. In PSHE, we discussed and identified the difference between facts and opinions. In Art, we have been exploring a range of mark making techniques, developing the use of different tools for painting. In Computing, we programmed different outputs using crumbles. What a fun week of learning in Year 4! This week we had our KS2 Bedtime stories where we enjoyed going to different classes and having a tasty hot chocolate to finish! In literacy this week we have been planning our Egyptian non-chronological reports and in Maths we have been looking at the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes! In PE we have been practicing jumps in gymnastics! Well done for a great week Year 4! Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne :)

Year 6 have had a brilliant and busy week packed full of learning! In Maths, we’ve been sharpening our decimal skills and growing in confidence when working with tricky numbers. Literacy has seen the children proudly publishing their formal letters before switching gears to start planning the content of their informal ones. In Art, creativity was flowing as we explored the design process for 3D sculptures and discovered why a strong base (armature) is so important. Our History lessons took us back in time to uncover the fascinating significance of Sutton Hoo, while in Music we’ve been developing our rhythm skills and coordination through lots of practical fun. In PE, teamwork was key as the children worked hard to master counterbalance and counter tension with a partner. Thoughtful discussions took place in PSHE about online life, exploring why people don’t always show the full picture of themselves. In Science, we investigated how we inherit similarities and differences from our parents. A fantastic week of focus, curiosity and enthusiasm from Year 6!

🌟 Year 2 Weekly Round-Up! This week we started our non-chronological reports in literacy, explored 3D shapes in maths, and investigated waterproof materials in science. In geography we drew maps of the school grounds using a key, and in RWV we learned about the Torah. In PE we practised holding gymnastics positions for 5 seconds. Super learning, Year 2! 🌈✨
