🌟 Attendance 🌟 It could have been a quiet squash and biscuits this week as landing on a high number on our Spin to Win board meant there were only two winners BUT these two were real chatterboxes and we had a lovely time sharing stories of our weekend and talking about all the exciting things happening in school this week! 💜

Attendance was low across the rest of the school - let's see if we can improve those scores in the last week of this half term. Remember, every class that achieves over 98% gets to roll the dice and earn a class prize whether they are the overall winner or not! 💜

This week in Reception we read the story 'Smeds and Smoos', we talked about how the aliens felt and retold the story. The children designed their own aliens and thought of an imaginary planet they could live on. The children also enjoyed exploring different colours to mix together. In Phonics this week we recapped our sounds taught this term and in Maths the children explored odd and even numbers, we enjoyed singing 'The animals come in 2 by 2'.

A brilliant week Year 3! In Literacy we have started writing our narratives, in Reading we have continued reading The Nothing To See Here Hotel and in Maths we have been looking at fractions. In Science we looked at how opaque objects cast shadows, in Art we created our final pieces, in Computing we programmed changes in characters and backgrounds, in PSHE we looked at money for wants and needs as well as why different jobs are paid differently, in Geography we learnt about the dangers of living near a volcano and in RWV we looked at Zakat and Ramadan. We also enjoyed another fabulous ukulele session. A massive congratulations to our Y3 girls football team who took part in the football tournament this week. WOW! We had a fun week in Year 4, this week! In Art we created our 3D abstract sculptures, inspired by the work of Henry Moore. In Woodlands, this week we build our fire in the woodlands and made our own toast and marshmallows, which were so tasty! In Science we have been exploring how shadows are created! Well done for a fantastic week Year 4! Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne 🙂

💜💫Weekly Round Up - Year 5! 💫💜 In Literacy, we published our non-chronological reports and have immersed in our new text, Beowulf. In Maths, we have continued to use the column method to multiply 3- and 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. In Reading, we have finished our book, Seven Ghosts. The children have been so immersed in this text and have made incredible links between the stories and inferences surrounding the character's thoughts, feelings and motives. In Science, we conducted our investigations to decide which material is the best thermal insulator. In Geography, we analysed how humans use The Amazon. In Art, we began to sketch our self-portraits inspired by the work of Chris Ofili and the Fauvist movement. In Woodlands, we discussed and created a mock firepit, carefully considering the materials, structure and safety in preparation for our bushcraft session on Monday. Have a lovely weekend everyone! Year 6 have had a brilliant and busy week! In Literacy, we launched our new unit on Beowulf, writing vivid setting and character descriptions and using drama to bring the battle scene to life and inspire powerful language. In Maths, we worked hard to secure our understanding of percentages, showing growing confidence and resilience when tackling problems. Our Art lessons were wonderfully creative (and a little messy!) as we used Mod Roc to build up volume and texture on wooden armatures to begin creating our own 3D models. In Computing, we became coders, using micro:bits to apply conditional statements and compare variables to values. In History, we explored the significance of Alfred the Great, learning why he remains such an important figure. In Science, we investigated how animals and plants survive by recognising the amazing adaptations they have developed. A fantastic week of learning, teamwork and enthusiasm - well done, Year 6!

🌲🔥 What an incredible week of learning for Year 1 and Year 2! 🔥🌲 Our absolute highlight was our final woodland bushcraft adventure. The children threw themselves into every moment — from exploring the outdoors to mastering new skills with huge smiles and even bigger enthusiasm. The grand finale? Toasting marshmallows over a real campfire and having a go at lighting a fire themselves (with careful supervision, of course!). The pride on their faces as the sparks caught was priceless. We’re so proud of their curiosity, teamwork, and bravery this week. What a magical way to round off our bushcraft sessions! 🌟

Our Year 6 Play Leaders are proud to show off their new custom hoodies! They took the Play Leaders Oath (written by them) in assembly today and have already been wearing their hoodies on the playground, helping the children at breaktime and lunch.

🌟 Attendance 🌟 Congratulations to Year 5 for winning this week's class attendance challenge! They were on their trip to West Stow so weren't able to roll the dice on our Attendance-opoly board - we will have to wait until Monday to find out what they have won! 💜

Year 2 have had a wonderfully busy and creative week. In science, the children explored different materials and their properties, while in geography they practised using a compass and learnt the directions North, South, East and West. Art lessons saw them designing their own sculptures, showing great imagination and care. In RWV, the class learnt about a Jewish story and discussed its meaning. In maths, they began working with the multiplication symbol and used it to represent equal groups. Literacy has been full of rich language work, with the children exploring rhyming words and creating similes to enhance their writing. In PE, they used apparatus to practise holding balances and developing control in movement. They’ve shown fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm across all subjects, and we’re very proud of their efforts.

Year 5! Another fantastic week in Year 5! In Literacy, we have finalised and published our non-chronological reports on Ancient Greece. In Maths, we have been working extremely hard to become fluent in multiplying two digit numbers by two digit numbers, using column method. In Reading, we have continued with our text, Seven Ghosts, making links between the stories. In Geography, we looked at who lives in The Amazon. In Computing, we programmed and controlled our crumble circuits to meet conditions. In Art, we looked at the Fauvist Art movement, comparing examples to the work of Chris Ofili. We then discussed and explored colour theory, selecting our own complimentary colours during our experimental stage. We also enjoyed a non-uniform day and whole class breakfast as an attendance reward - keep this up Year 5! Today, we enjoyed our trip to West Stow, our hook for our upcoming Literacy and History topics on the Anglo Saxons. The children displayed great engagement and curiosity and were true role models! It’s been a fantastic week of learning in Year 1. In Literacy, the children have been exploring how to write a persuasive letter, thinking carefully about how to share their ideas and reasons. In RWV, they learned about synagogues, showing great curiosity as they discovered why these places of worship are important. Over in Geography, the children enjoyed learning how to use compasses, practising the four main directions and building their confidence in navigation. This week in Year 4 we have been very busy with our learning! In Literacy we have started our new topic based on the narrative, 'Dear Earth' and explored the different environmental themes. In Maths this week we have started to explore fractions and how to make a whole. We also had our 'Epic Tales' Literacy workshop this week! In PE we explored different types of rolls and jumps before performing these in our sequences! Have a lovely weekend, Miss Harvey and Mrs Longthorne 🙂

A brilliant week Year 3! In Literacy we started our new unit to write our own narratives, in Reading we have continued reading The Nothing To See Here Hotel and in Maths we have been adding and subtracting lengths. In Science we looked at how the sun can be harmful and how we can protect ourselves from harmful UV rays, in Art we designed the flowers we are going to be using in our final pieces, in Computing we programmed sound in Scratch, in Woodlands we built mock fires, in Geography we learnt why people might want to live near a volcano and in RWV we looked at Salah – Muslim prayer. We also had a fabulous visit from an author who read us a story about Norwegian brothers and we got to act out various scenes from the story! Enjoy your weekend! Mr Wright and Miss Bow

This week in Reception we read the story 'My Pet Star' we discussed how the star felt in the story and learnt that the biggest star is the sun, we had ago at being the different planets orbiting the sun in the solar system. The children later created their own pet stars. Later in the week we listened to music 'The Planets' by the composer Gustav Holst. The children had ago at playing different instruments and took turns to be the composer. In Phonics this week we learnt the sounds ure, ow and er. We enjoyed having parents in to celebrate the progress the children have made! In Maths we have been looking at the composition of numbers 7 and 8, creating number sentences.

🌟Westwood Winners!🌟 Our Key Stage 1 children took part in the Matball Championship this week entering 2 teams to compete. The Westwood A Team came third in the A league 🥉 The Westwood B Team came first in the B league 🥇 We are so proud of you all for representing our school. We also got both player of the match awards for Brodee and Skye because of their "resilience and sportsmanship" 🏆 Thank you to @premEducationUK for coaching the children to victory!

This week in Year 2, we published our fantastic non-chronological reports in Literacy, showing off all our hard work and growing confidence as writers. In Maths, we consolidated our understanding of 2D and 3D shapes, exploring their properties and using them to solve problems. In Art, we enjoyed creating our own 3D sculptures using pipe cleaners, bending and twisting them into imaginative designs. For Geography, we went on a local walk to identify human and physical features and think carefully about where they are positioned in our environment. In RWV, we learnt why the Torah is important to Jewish people, and in Science, we investigated absorbent materials through hands-on experiments. It has been a busy and brilliant week of learning!
