Child-Led Learning

In year 2, we follow our initiative and learn through play in the environment. We have access to a key stage area, with construction, creative and water areas. We also have an amazing garden. The garden has a mud kitchen for experimenting and measuring. Logs and construction, a sandpit, stage, gardening and pond dipping. When we are being scientists and mathematicians we sometimes get muddy, the school provides all children with a wet weather suit, but please ensure all children have a pair of wellies in school!

Children embed their skills by doing, we have a time team to keep our time keeping on track. Our snack bar has a price, ensuring children use money skills, every day. Even our register is a bar chart!

In the afternoon, we have an enquiry based learning (EBL) curriculum. This term children are researching "Real Life Superheroes". EBL follows the children's interests and helps them to develop a range of skills such as: questioning, contacting people, using a library and books to find information and using ICT to find information and record what we find out. We have even interviewed real life super heroes!

Every Wednesday, we have woodland school, where we learn to build, explore and work together.

In Year 2 children read daily, either in a small group or individually. Book bags are needed in school every day. Please read with your child at home as often as possible, ideally every day. This will link into our reading challenge at school. We have filled two of our reading tubes - one more and we get a trip! We can do it Year 2! When your child’s book needs changing please encourage them to place their reading record log and reading book into the tray just inside the classroom door.

Behaviour Tokens

Children who demonstrate our learning behaviours, earn behaviour tokens. Every Friday, in our celebration assemebly, one child will win a drawn from all the tokens and win a prize.

Thank you for your continued support.
