Talk for Writing
Talk for Writing enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally before reading and analysing it and then creating their own version of the story. In Reception we are currently learning the story of 'The 3 Little Pigs'.

Reading
We earn a cube for our class reading tube in the hall every time we read at home. When we have filled one tube we get a reward! We visit the library every Monday so please bring in your book to be changed and help us earn more cubes! Reading books are changed when they have been read so please put book bags in the red box when your reading book needs to be changed.
Yippee...our first reading tube is full! Reception have a class trip coming soon 😀
Woodland School
This year we have started Woodland School where we are able to explore our senses, look at seasonal changes and learn woodland skills such as den building, bug hunting and fire building/safety. Our Woodland School session is on a Tuesday morning. Please ensure your child has a suitable coat (we have wet weather gear and wellies but if you'd like to bring your own you're more than welcome to) as we will be accessing the woods in all weathers.
Tuesday 21st November
Family Woodland Week
Thank you to the Reception families who joined us for our Woodland School session today. It was great to have so many of you join us and see what we do in the woods!
Monday 13th November
Family Cafe
A big thank you to all the families that joined us this morning at the reception story cafe . The children had a great time exploring the story of 'The Gruffalo' 🐾 .
Learning at Home
A learning pack is sent home every other Friday for you and your child to enjoy at home. Phonics grids in reading record books (yellow books) are updated with new letters and words on a weekly basis.
We really love to hear about what your child can do at home. We value all successes big or small and we would like to celebrate them. We have a display in the classroom where we will be sharing their achievements.
We will regularly send home activity ideas linking to your child's learning at school and ‘at home’ labels which we would love
for you to fill in and share their learning with us.
We have also set up an email address for you to send us any pictures of their achievements and a brief bit about what they are doing which we can then add to their learning story.
The email address is: learningstories@westwoodprimary.org
This email is only for photographs of your own child to contribute to their learning story. If you have any concerns or questions please speak to one of us.
