All pupils at Westwood have the right to have rich, deep learning experiences that balance all the aspects of computing. With technology playing such a significant role in everyone's lives today, we believe ‘Computational thinking’ is a skill children must be taught if they are to be able to be successful, participate effectively and safely in this digital world. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, which we aim to provide for our children by teaching all three elements of computing: Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy in which pupils are introduced to a wide range of technology, including laptops, iPads and eventually physical computing systems. Our aim is to provide a technology rich environment which allows pupils to gain the confidence and ability to prepare them for the challenge of a rapidly developing and changing technological world. We want our children to see the potential in computing and branch out into careers that stretch out beyond our local community. We will achieve this by delivering a rich and exciting curriculum, blended with unique enrichment opportunities to expose children to the possibility of a computational future.
The 5 pillars that underpin our curriculum are:
- Developing Computational Thinking
- Working Collaboratively
- Keeping Ourselves Safe Online
- Developing a functional use of IT
- Making Real Life Links
