Learning in Topic is delivered through a mix of creative, enquiring, cross-curricular curriculum links and discrete teaching of specific subjects all of which is underpinned by the national curriculum. We believe that our children learn best when inspired, immersed and intrinsically motivated. Skilful adults enable this to happen through a well-planned, captivating environment and curriculum that is carefully mapped across all areas specific to year groups. The children benefit from whole class teaching, adult directed activities and self-initiated learning.
Topic Subjects focus on Understanding of the World. The three main subjects include History, Geography and Science. However, where they fit all other subjects are incorporated in a creative, cross-curricular curriculum approach.Topics are carefully chosen planned to ensure that we provide a variety of experiences for pupils to acquire, develop and apply a range of knowledge, skills and understanding from across the curriculum.
Children spend a block of time focusing on developing historical, geographical and scientific skills and knowledge. In addition, sometimes, Science is also taught discretely; more so in KS2.
The Key Stage Long Term Plans show how these subjects and other subjects are planned for across a two year cycle.
Below is the long term plan for Topic and a link to the Key Stage pages which further outline the curriculum for specific years groups.
